A place with history — and a future full of connection.
The Mokka-Milch-Eisbar on Karl-Marx-Allee was more than just an ice cream café in the 1960s — it was a beloved social hub in East Berlin. A popular meeting place for young people, a symbol of youthful energy and modern life.
A cultural landmark
Designed as part of the modern architectural ensemble along the newly built boulevard, it became a popular meeting place for young people. The café even entered the cultural imagination through a hit song by Thomas Natschinski, making the "Mokka-Milch-Eisbar" known across the country. At a time when few public spaces supported spontaneous connection, the Eisbar offered exactly that: a space to hang out, enjoy a treat, chat, flirt, and be seen — a rare slice of openness and community life in a divided city.
Honoring the legacy
Today, we honor that legacy as we bring new life to this historic pavilion. The same architectural character and spirit that once drew Berliners to its tables — its iconic façade, open spaces, and sense of belonging — live on in Mokka Milch. We respect the roots of this remarkable place while evolving it into something that meets the deepest needs of our time.
Why we exist.
Mokka Milch was created in response to something quietly shaping our modern world: loneliness.
Research shows that the greatest threat to human happiness isn't failure, status, or even unemployment — it's social isolation. Studies across Europe reveal that severe loneliness has a greater negative impact on wellbeing than unemployment and far outweighs many physical health risks.
We believe the world needs more places that bring people together. Places where conversations happen naturally. Where communities gather, and new ones are born. Where you are not just a guest, but part of something.
Mokka Milch exists to create that space. A place of belonging. A place of connection. A place where we remember that we are not meant to do life alone.

Built by believers.
Natacha and Alexander Neumann have been active entrepreneurs in Berlin's startup ecosystem since 2010, guided by a clear belief: business should be a force for good.
They began their journey with Freche Freunde, now one of Germany's best-known healthy snack brands for children. At the time, they saw the health crisis as the most urgent issue to address.
Years later, their focus has shifted. Today, they see loneliness, polarization, and a growing lack of belonging as some of society's biggest challenges. With this purpose in mind, they founded Mokka Milch in 2025, inspired by the historic spirit of the Mokka-Milch-Eisbar, reimagined as a place where people can come together and feel they belong.
